Madrid does not have the romantic reputation of Paris or Venice, but it works beautifully for couples: long evenings, small flamenco rooms, taverns with centuries of history and, an hour away, Segovia seen from a balloon. These are the plans we sell that suit two people best, with real prices.

A flamenco night in a small venue
Las Carboneras is in the basement of the old Count of Miranda palace, five minutes from Plaza Mayor. It is a small, intimate room with a resident troupe and plenty of genuine improvisation. Your ticket includes one drink, and there is a dinner option with Spanish food before the show. It has wheelchair access, which is rare among the old-town venues.
- Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early: tables go by order of arrival, and the back side row has a worse view.
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
If you prefer a venue with more history and a three-course dinner, Torres Bermejas, open since 1960 by Gran Vía, starts at €31 per person. We compare them in flamenco in Madrid: which venue to choose.
The oldest taverns, just for you
A private guide takes you on a 2 h 10 min walk through taverns and restaurants more than one and two hundred years old, including the one Guinness lists as the oldest restaurant in the world, with stories of kings, writers and everyday life in old Madrid. Two drinks and two tapas per person are included, at the first and last tavern. It can start with pick-up from your hotel.
- €127 per person, minimum 2.
- Minimum age 12; not wheelchair accessible.
A special occasion: a balloon over Segovia
An hour in the air over Segovia, with the Roman aqueduct, the cathedral and the Alcázar all in view at once. After landing, 4x4s take you to a breakfast with cava, and you get a flight certificate and a photo set. It takes about four hours in all from the operator's base in Segovia; without a car, pick-up in Madrid (Hotel Riu Plaza España) costs €40 per person.
- Wear comfortable outdoor clothes, trainers and something for your head.
- Times depend on wind and weight limits; not recommended during pregnancy.
Quieter plans
- Private chic picnic: a team sets up a gourmet picnic in a discreet spot in Madrid, revealed when your booking is confirmed, with Reserva ham, artisan cheeses and alcohol-free sparkling wine. They set up and clear everything. Note that free cancellation is only up to 12 hours before.
- Wine and tapas in hidden bars: four stops at bars, taverns and market stalls with at least one glass of wine at each, designed by a Spanish Wine Scholar. It leaves at 11.30 am or 6.30 pm from Plaza de los Carros in La Latina and counts as dinner.
A day out: winery and lunch in Chinchón
Six hours with transport from the centre: a historic family winery with a cellar visit and a tasting of three wines, then lunch at a traditional restaurant in Chinchón, with its medieval square. Groups of eight at most, €200 per person, with free cancellation up to 48 hours before.
A perfect evening for two
- Sunset: the Temple of Debod or Parque del Oeste (free).
- Early evening: the private tavern tour, which doubles as your aperitivo.
- Then: flamenco at Las Carboneras, in the same neighbourhood. Shows usually run between 8.30 pm and 10.30 pm: choose your time when booking.
- To finish: a stroll through Plaza Mayor and Calle Mayor lit up at night.
Practical tips
- Small flamenco venues: book one or two weeks ahead for Fridays and Saturdays.
- Balloon flight: do not leave it for your last day; if wind cancels it, you need time to rebook.
- Madrid hours: dinner starts late, from 9 pm. A flamenco show with dinner is the easiest way to eat earlier.
- On a budget: the guided panoramic night bus (from €23.40 per person) and our guide to Madrid on a budget give you a full evening for little.
Common mistakes
- Arriving at the last minute for flamenco: you get the worst table.
- Booking the balloon after a late dinner: the flight is in the morning and ends with breakfast.
- Assuming the picnic can be cancelled on the day: the cut-off is 12 hours.
