Our take
It's the most active way to enjoy Papagayo and its score is very high (4.7), though with few reviews compared with other island activities so far. The water is calm and it works for families and beginners. The catch is the timing: it starts at 9:45 in the south, so if you're staying in Costa Teguise or the north you'll need an early start.

The experience
What you'll see
A morning in a kayak around Papagayo bay, the golden-sand coves of the Los Ajaches Natural Monument, with a beach stop for snorkelling.
- Papagayo bay from the water, with stops for explanations and photos.
- A protected area full of fish for snorkelling.
- The cliffs of the Los Ajaches park.
- Sea caves on the way back, if sea conditions allow.
How it works
You meet in front of the reception of Hotel Sandos Papagayo, east of Playa Blanca. A guide in Papagayo Watersports uniform walks you to the centre by the beach. According to the description, the activity starts at 9:45: you're given a dry bag, mask, snorkel, water and a short briefing on paddling and safety.
Then you paddle around the bay for about 45 minutes with stops. On the beach there's a chocolate bar and fruit, and an hour and a quarter to snorkel or walk up to the viewpoints. On the way back, if the sea allows, you go into sea caves. You're back around 13:00, and the photos arrive by WeTransfer that same afternoon.
Transport to the hotel isn't included, so you'll need to get there yourself. Bring a towel and beachwear; the rest of the gear is provided.
Who I'd recommend it to
- Anyone staying in or near Playa Blanca.
- Families with children aged 3 and over, and beginners.
- Anyone who wants to see Papagayo with some activity, not just from a boat.
Who I wouldn't recommend it to
- Anyone staying far from the south who doesn't want an early start.
- Anyone who'd rather not paddle: the Papagayo mini-cruise is more relaxed.
- Anyone over 130 kg: the operator doesn't accept them.
Accessibility
GetYourGuide lists it as wheelchair accessible; as it's a kayak trip, check conditions with Papagayo Watersports before booking.
Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, with a full refund.
