Highlights

  • 1.5 km hike to the base of Roque Nublo
  • Pico de las Nieves, the island's highest point, with Mount Teide in the distance
  • Tejeda, one of Spain's prettiest villages, and its almond trees
  • Guide covering geology, aboriginal culture and local produce

Our take

The inland trip you have to do on Gran Canaria: Roque Nublo is the island's symbol and the peaks have nothing to do with the coast. Without a car, this is the way to see it in a day with someone who explains what you are looking at.

What's included

  • Minibus transport from Las Palmas
  • Official guide
  • Stops at Roque Nublo, Pico de las Nieves and Tejeda

Not included

  • Lunch (lunch stop in Tejeda)
  • Pickup in the south (a version with Maspalomas pickup exists)

Good to know

What to bring

  • Hiking or sports shoes
  • Warm layers: the peaks are 10 °C cooler than the coast
  • Water, sun protection and a snack

Not suitable for

  • People with reduced mobility: the Roque Nublo climb is a stone path with elevation gain

Things to keep in mind

  • The peaks can be in fog; the sea of clouds is part of the show
  • Tejeda has the best views of almond blossom in February
  • Bring cash for the bienmesabe and almond sweets in Tejeda

Meeting point

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (exact point on your voucher)

Pickup at points in central Las Palmas first thing in the morning. The exact point and time are on your voucher; confirm them the day before.

The experience

The route

A full day in inland Gran Canaria, the part of the island most visitors never see. Departure from Las Palmas first thing by minibus, up the central road and back in the afternoon.

Roque Nublo

An 80-metre volcanic monolith at 1,813 m that the aboriginal Canarians held sacred. A 1.5 km path leads to the plateau at its base: 30-40 minutes, with views over the Tejeda caldera and, on a clear day, Mount Teide.

Pico de las Nieves

The roof of the island (1,949 m). From the viewpoint you see half of Gran Canaria, the sea of clouds to the north and, on clear days, all of Tenerife with Teide.

Tejeda

One of Spain's prettiest villages: white houses perched over the caldera, almond trees and almond sweets (bienmesabe, marzipan). Lunch stop.

Inland villages

Depending on the route, stops in Santa Brígida, San Mateo or the Cruz de Tejeda, with the guide explaining the island's volcanic origin and aboriginal culture.

Who it's for

  • Anyone without a car, or who does not want to drive winding mountain roads.
  • Anyone who wants to understand the island beyond the beach.

Accessibility

Not accessible on the Roque Nublo path. Ask the operator about alternatives.

Cancellation policy

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before with full refund.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Roque Nublo climb hard?
No. It is a 1.5 km stone path (30-40 minutes) with 200 metres of elevation gain up to the plateau where the monolith stands. Families with children do it; you just need closed shoes.
Can you see Mount Teide?
On a clear day, yes: from Pico de las Nieves and from Roque Nublo, Teide rises above the sea of clouds 100 km away. It is more common in the morning.
Is there a version from the south?
Yes, there are departures with pickup in Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés. This is the one from Las Palmas; choose according to where you are staying.
