Our take
The Medes are Catalonia's best-known marine reserve, and the small boat makes the difference: it goes into caves and under the Roca Foradada, which the big boats skip. An hour and a half is short but well used. Pair it with an afternoon in Pals or Begur for a full day out from Girona.

The experience
What you will see
The boat leaves L'Estartit and tours the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter:
- Sea caves and the Roca Foradada, a natural arch the boat sails through.
- The seabed through underwater windows: fish, groupers and sometimes tuna.
- A swim stop of about 15 minutes inside the park.
How it works
You book a time, show your voucher at the breakwater and board the Fadrí, a 20-seat boat. The guide covers the history, marine life and birds of the area along the way.
Who I recommend it for
- Families with children: it is short and very visual.
- Anyone who wants to see the reserve without diving.
- Visitors staying in Girona looking for half a day on the coast.
Who I don't recommend it for
- Anyone who wants serious diving or snorkelling: the stop is short.
- Anyone looking for a full day on a boat.
Accessibility
Not suitable for wheelchairs: boarding is from the quay onto a small boat.
Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, with a full refund.
