Our take
Gliding by boat along a river underground is the kind of experience every age enjoys, and in half a day from Valencia it is hard to find anything as different. With nearly 3,000 reviews at 4.6/5 it is a reliable pick; just bear in mind the boat ride itself is shorter than the total length of the trip suggests.

The experience
What you will see
- The navigable underground river of the San José Caves.
- Stalactites, stalagmites and cave paintings.
- The cave's dry gallery, explored on foot.
How it works
You leave Valencia by bus for La Vall d'Uixó while the guide explains the history of the area. At the caves you board a boat that covers about 850 metres of river, then continue on foot through the dry gallery. Before heading back there are 30 free minutes for a coffee or the shop. About four hours in total.
Who I recommend it for

- Anyone with only half a day free in Valencia.
Who I don't recommend it for
- People with claustrophobia.
- Anyone expecting a long route inside the cave.
