Our take

It's the cheapest quad route up to Teide and the one that starts closest to the park, so you spend more time in volcanic scenery and less on coastal roads. The catch is getting to Chío yourself and bringing cash for the deposit. If you're staying in the south without a car, the Arona tour with transfer makes more sense.

What's included

  • Quad hire
  • Helmet, jacket and gloves for the cold
  • Instructor and guide
  • Extended quad insurance

Not included

  • Transport to the meeting point
  • €100 cash deposit per quad (refundable)
  • Photos and videos (the GYG listing contradicts itself; check)

Meeting point

Quad Riders Tenerife, next to the DISA petrol station in Chío (Guía de Isora).

Search for "Quad Riders Tenerife" on your GPS. There's no transfer: you need to make your own way there. If you add the jet ski, that part is at San Miguel marina, about 35 km away, 30 minutes before your booked time.

The experience

What you will see

The route starts in Chío, in the municipality of Guía de Isora, halfway up the island's western slope, and climbs by quad into Teide National Park. Because the starting point is already high up, most of the time is spent on mountain roads and in volcanic scenery.

  • Mirador de los Poleos and the views over Pico Viejo, Teide's neighbouring volcano.
  • A break near the Zapatilla de la Reina, one of the park's most photographed lava formations.
  • Teide head-on and, on the afternoon option, the sunset over the sea of clouds.

How it works

You make your own way to the Quad Riders Tenerife base, next to the DISA petrol station in Chío. There's no transfer, so you'll need a car or taxi. There you get a helmet, jacket and gloves, a briefing on handling the quad and safety rules, and the group sets off with one guide for every five quads at most.

To drive you must be 18 and hold a full, physical car licence; copies aren't accepted. Passengers don't need a licence but must be at least 7 years old and 120 cm. You leave a €100 cash deposit per quad at the start.

If access to Teide is closed because of weather or road closures, the guide switches to an alternative coastal route. On the sunset option, wear warm layers under the jacket: it gets cold up there as soon as the sun goes down.

There's a combo option with a jet ski, but it takes place elsewhere (San Miguel marina, about 35 km away), with no transfer between the two, and you arrange the time directly with the provider.

Who I recommend it for

  • Anyone who wants to see Teide differently from a coach or car.
  • Anyone staying in the west or south-west (Playa San Juan, Los Gigantes, Guía de Isora).
  • Couples or groups of friends with licences who want to drive.

Who I don't recommend it for

  • Anyone without a car: reaching Chío is awkward. The quad tour from Arona with transfer is better.
  • Anyone without a physical licence or travelling with young children.
  • Anyone wanting to reach the summit or ride the cable car: this route doesn't go there.

Accessibility

Not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Cancellation policy
