The experience

What you'll see

The Royal Alcázar is a palace that has been in use for a thousand years: Umayyad fortress, Almohad palace, residence of Pedro I and, today, the royal family's official residence in Seville.

The Palace of Pedro I

The Mudéjar jewel of the complex. The Courtyard of the Maidens, the Hall of Ambassadors with its gilded wooden dome, and plasterwork made by Granada craftsmen from the Alhambra.

The Gothic Palace and the Baths of María de Padilla

The Christian part of the site, with 16th-century tapestries and the vaulted baths beneath the Patio del Crucero, one of the most photographed corners.

The gardens

Over 7 hectares: the Pond Garden, the Grutesco Gallery, the maze and free-roaming peacocks. The Water Gardens of Dorne in Game of Thrones were filmed here.

Making the most of it

  • Book the first morning slot (9:30): the palace fills with groups from 11 am.
  • Do the palaces first and leave the gardens for the end.
  • The Upper Royal Rooms (the royal family's private quarters) are not included: they are visited with a guide in groups of 15 and must be booked separately.

Accessibility

The ground floor and main gardens are accessible. Some areas have steps.

Cancellation policy

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before with full refund.

Frequently asked questions

Guide or self-guided?
Self-guided works well if you have read up on what to see: the palace speaks for itself and the gardens are a stroll. A guide adds the context of the Mudéjar-Christian mix. Our Alcázar guide compares the options.
How long do I need?
Between 1.5 and 2 hours: 45-60 minutes for the palaces and the rest for the gardens. In spring, when the gardens are in bloom, it is worth lingering.
Can I combine it with the Cathedral on the same day?
Yes, they are 100 metres apart. The easy plan is the Alcázar first thing and the Cathedral after lunch, or book the 3-monument priority pass.
