The Alpujarra is a different Andalusia, all mountains and white stone houses, and there is no easy way to get there from Nerja without a car. Private, you go at your own pace through the three Poqueira villages.

The experience
What the day looks like
The driver picks you up at your accommodation in Nerja and you head up towards Sierra Nevada. The first stop is Pampaneira, with its flower-filled streets and craft shops. Then in Bubión you go inside a traditional Alpujarra house to see how mountain life worked. The day ends in Capileira, the highest village in the Poqueira gorge, with huge views and a good spot for lunch before heading back to Nerja.
