About Santiago Bernabéu Stadium
The Santiago Bernabéu is Real Madrid's home ground and stands on the Paseo de la Castellana, in the Chamartín district. It opened in 1947 as the Nuevo Estadio Chamartín, designed by the architects Manuel Muñoz Monasterio and Luis Alemany Soler, and in 1955 it took the name of Santiago Bernabéu, the club president who drove its construction.
Over the years it has hosted the 1982 World Cup final, four European Cup finals and the 1964 European Nations' Cup final. It was enlarged several times, and between 2019 and 2024 it went through its deepest transformation yet: an outer skin of steel slats wrapping the whole building, a retractable roof and a pitch that can be removed and stored beneath the stands so the stadium can host concerts and other events.
Today it is also one of the most visited tours in Madrid. The tour takes you to the club museum and its trophies, to a panoramic viewpoint high up in the stands and, when there's no match nearby, to the dressing rooms and the dugouts.
