Our take

The Dalí Theatre-Museum is the easiest day trip from Girona: a half-hour train ride and everything on foot. On your own it can be overwhelming, because it is designed as one big stage set; with a guide you understand why it is laid out that way. The only drawback is that it cannot be cancelled, so book it once your day is fixed.

Meeting point

Dalí Theatre-Museum. Plaça Gala i Salvador Dalí, 5, 17600 Figueres, Girona.

The museum is in central Figueres, a 10-minute walk from the train station. Regional trains run from Girona every half hour (about 35 minutes), and the high-speed AVE takes 15 minutes to Figueres-Vilafant, a 20-minute walk from the museum.

The experience

What you will see

Dalí designed the museum on the ruins of Figueres' old theatre as a work of art in itself. The guided tour covers the essentials:

  • The geodesic dome and the stage of the old theatre.
  • The Mae West Room, a portrait that only appears from one exact spot.
  • The Rainy Taxi in the courtyard and the optical illusions in the galleries.
  • The crypt where Dalí is buried.

How it works

You book a time, arrive at the museum entrance with the ticket on your phone and go in with the guide, skipping the ticket office. After the one-hour tour you can stay inside at your own pace.

Who I recommend it for

  • Visitors going to Figueres from Girona by train who want to make the most of their time.
  • Anyone who does not know Dalí's work well and wants to understand it.

Who I don't recommend it for

  • Anyone without fixed dates: it cannot be cancelled.
  • Anyone who prefers to explore alone with no set times.

Accessibility

The museum and the tour are wheelchair accessible.

Cancellation policy

This activity is non-refundable: it cannot be cancelled or changed once booked.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the tour?
The guided tour lasts 1 hour. You can then carry on by yourself: allow 2 hours to see the whole museum.
How do I get there from Girona?
By regional train, about 35 minutes to Figueres station, a 10-minute walk from the museum. Sarfa buses also run.
Does it include the Dalí jewels room?
It depends on the tour time. Ask your guide at the start; the jewel collection is in an annex building on the same ticket.
Is a guide worth it?
Yes. Many works rely on optical tricks and references that are easy to miss without an explanation, and the guide takes you straight to what matters.
