Our take
Calderón Hondo is the easiest and most rewarding volcano climb in the north, and the sunset light over the lava fields makes a real difference. What this tour adds over going alone is the transfer, the group of 7 and the commentary. If you want stars, choose the night version instead.

The experience
What you will see
- The Calderón Hondo crater, the most visited volcano in the north.
- The lava fields and moon-like landscape around Lajares.
- The sunset from the top of the volcano.
How it works
A bus picks you up in Corralejo, El Cotillo or Puerto del Rosario and takes you to the trailhead. With the guide you climb through the volcanic landscape to the crater rim, where you wait for the sunset. You walk down in the last light and are taken back.
Who I recommend it for
- Anyone after a short hike with a great sunset.
- Travellers without a car staying in the north of the island.
Who I don't recommend it for
- Families with a baby carriage.
- Anyone wanting stargazing: book the night departure for that.
Accessibility
Not suitable for wheelchairs or baby carriages; the route climbs a volcanic trail.
Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, with a full refund.
