Our take
The espeto is the most Málaga thing you can eat on the beach, and here you don't just try it: you see how it's done and do it yourself. Before that, a stroll round El Pedregalejo and a jábega boatyard that explains where it all comes from. It's a private experience, aimed at couples and families. The price bites with small groups: from €205 per person for 2. With 3 or 4 people it drops a lot (€340 in total for 4). If you only want to eat espetos, a beach bar is cheaper; this is for those who want the story and the class.

The experience
What the experience is like
It starts in El Pedregalejo, Málaga's fishing quarter. You walk the area and step into a craft boatyard where jábegas, the traditional boats of the Málaga coast, are built and restored. This is the part that explains the city's bond with the sea: boats, nets and trade.
Then comes the espeto class: how the sardines are threaded onto the cane and grilled by the fire, as they have been on this coast for centuries. You finish with the tasting and a drink, by the beach.
How it works
It's a private experience of about 3 hours, starting at 11:00. The price is per person, minimum 2 and maximum 15, and it drops the more of you there are. Getting to El Pedregalejo is up to you.
Who it's for
- Couples and families who want something other than a monuments tour.
- Anyone into local food who wants to learn to make espetos.
- Groups of 3 or 4: the price per person drops a lot.
Accessibility
Not wheelchair or pushchair accessible.
