Our take
Gibraltar from Málaga is a long day on the road, and it goes much better in private: a car from the hotel, a 2-hour tour of the Rock with tickets sorted and free time for lunch. The apes, St Michael's Cave and the Great Siege Tunnels are what almost everyone comes for, and all three are here. It's expensive for 1 or 2 people (€760 per group) and makes more sense from 4 (€960 in total). Travelling solo or as a couple on a budget, coach trips cost much less, if with less flexibility.

The experience
What the day is like
You're picked up from your hotel in Málaga and head down the Costa del Sol to Gibraltar. There you take a 2-hour tour of the Rock with private transport: the home of the Barbary macaques, St Michael's Cave with its stalactites and stalagmites, and the Great Siege Tunnels, part of Gibraltar's military history.
Then you get 2 hours of free time for lunch and a wander round town. Afterwards you head back to the border, where your transport to Málaga is waiting.
How it works
It's private and priced per group: €760 for 1 or 2 people and €960 for 4. Entry to the Nature Reserve, the Cave and the Tunnels is included. Lunch isn't. Getting back to the border after the free time is up to you.

- Anyone who wants the apes, the cave and the tunnels in one day.
- Groups of 4: the price per person drops a lot.
