The experience
The three museums
Prado Museum: Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, Titian, Rubens and Bosch. Las Meninas, The Garden of Earthly Delights, the Black Paintings. One of the world's five great museums; 3 hours minimum.
Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum: the private collection that spans Western art from the 13th to the 20th century: Flemish primitives, Impressionists, German Expressionism, American Pop. The most varied of the three; 2 hours.
Reina Sofía Museum: 20th-century art and Picasso's Guernica, with Dalí, Miró and the Spanish avant-garde. 2 hours for the essentials.
How to split them
All three are on the Paseo del Prado, a 10-minute walk from each other. Two days is comfortable: a full morning at the Prado; the Thyssen and the Reina Sofía another day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The pass is valid for a year, so there is no rush.
