The experience
Gran Canaria's finest nature park
Palmitos Park is set in a dramatic natural barranco (ravine) in the interior of Gran Canaria, 15 km north of Maspalomas. It combines a zoological park, botanical garden, dolphin and parrot shows, and a remarkable butterfly house in a single day out.
Dolphin show
The park's dolphin auditorium seats 4,000 people — the largest in the Canary Islands. The show features bottlenose dolphins performing natural behaviours and acrobatics. Arrival at the park early allows you to claim good seats.
Parrot show
The parrot show is one of the most entertaining in any Spanish theme park — trained macaws, cockatoos, and African grey parrots perform with their handlers in a naturalistic outdoor theatre. The grey parrots' ability to mimic human speech is always a crowd favourite.
The butterfly house
One of the park's stars: a large tropical greenhouse with hundreds of butterflies from South America, Asia, and Africa flying freely around visitors. The best time to visit is mid-morning when warmth and light make the butterflies most active.
The gardens
The park is set within a botanical garden featuring native Canarian plants, cacti, tropical palms, and flowering succulents. Walking between attractions through the barranco is a pleasure in itself.
The bird garden
Flamingos, toucans, hornbills, crowned cranes, and dozens of other tropical species in large aviaries. The free-flying parrot zones allow close encounters.
Getting there
The drive along the GC-503 from Maspalomas is scenic — a winding mountain road through a stark volcanic landscape. Allow 30 minutes from the south coast resorts.
Accessibility
Largely accessible, with adapted paths for most areas. Hilly terrain means some effort is required with a wheelchair. Confirm needs with the park.
Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before with full refund.
