Our take
It's a different way to see Tossa, heading up into the hills rather than staying on the beach, and it blends scenery with a bit of history thanks to Sant Grau and the dolmens. If you've already done the 4x4 tour from Lloret, this one covers a different area; bear in mind the 5-person minimum out of season.

The experience
What you'll see
- Viewpoints over the Costa Brava where the mountains drop into the sea.
- The Sanctuary of Sant Grau d'Ardenya, medieval in origin and rebuilt in 1882.
- The ruins of the Mare de Déu de Gràcia hermitage.
- The Les Cadiretes megalithic area, with dolmens and menhirs over 3,000 years old.
How it works
You leave Tossa bus station in an open-top Land Rover Santana and climb dirt and rocky tracks through forest, with no buildings around, from sea level to about 500 metres. Along the way the guide tells you about Tossa's history and its cork-making past, and you stop at the viewpoints, the sanctuary, the hermitage and the dolmens before heading back.
Who I recommend it for
- Families with children aged 3 and up.
- Anyone after a Tossa plan that isn't the beach.
- People who want mountain scenery without hiking.
Who I don't recommend it for
- Anyone who wants to drive: the guide does.
- Travellers with little flexibility: it may be cancelled if fewer than 5 book.
