Our take
Altea and Calpe are just over an hour from Alicante and pair well in one day, one for its whitewashed old town and the other for the Peñón and the beach. The trip leaves plenty of free time, which suits you if you prefer wandering at your own pace to a long guided visit.

The experience
What you will see
- Altea old town, with its white houses and blue-domed church.
- Calpe historic centre.
- The Peñón de Ifach from the beach and promenade.
How it works
The coach leaves Puerta del Mar and reaches Altea in about 75 minutes, where the guide leads a short walk before an hour and a half of free time. You then continue to Calpe for a brief old-town walk, some free time and two hours by the beach before heading back to Alicante.

- Travellers who like plenty of free time to stroll, eat and swim.
Who I don't recommend it for
- Anyone after an in-depth guided visit: the explanations are short.
