Our take
El Torcal is one of Andalusia's strangest landscapes, with rocks that look stacked by hand, and it's an hour from Málaga. Doing it privately with a mountain guide makes sense: they explain what you're seeing and set the pace. The stop in Antequera rounds the day off well. It's a pricey trip: from €446 per person for 2 and €258 a head for 4. If you like walking and want something other than white villages, it's worth it; if you just want to see El Torcal, the green trail can be done independently if you have a car.

Then Antequera, one of the oldest towns in the West: a walk to see the alcazaba and the Collegiate Church from outside. Then back to Málaga.
